Milan Officially Recognized Armenian Genocide
Despite the efforts of the Consulate General of
Turkey in Milan (Italy), the Council of the Province of Milan by
overwhelming majority has adopted a resolution formally recognizing
the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in Ottoman Turkey in 1915,
independent French journalist Jean Eckian told PanARMENIAN.Net.

TURKEY THREATENS FRANCE WITH DEPORTATION OF
70 THOUSAND ARMENIANS
"Turkey should deport 70,000 Armenian migrants if
the bill on punishment for denying the Armenian Genocide is adopted
by France Parliament," Yashar Yakish, Turkey former Foreign Minister
and chairman of the Parliament's Adaptation Commission to the EU
said, reported APA. Having told about the strong Armenian lobby,
numbering 400, 000, he said 70,000 Armenians work illegally in
Turkey. "They will have problems when Turkey government sends them
back to Armenia. Armenia should realize its responsibility. It can
be said that Armenia is taking the punishment for France," the former
Turkish FM said.

FRENCH MP's PASS GENOCIDE BILL

The French parliament has adopted a bill making it a crime to deny
that Armenians suffered "genocide" at the hands of the Turks,
infuriating Turkey. The bill, which would make genocide denial

punishable by a year in jail and a 45,000-euro fine, will now be

passed to the Senate and president.

Turkey has threatened to retaliate with economic sanctions

against France. Ottoman Turks killed 1.5 million people

systematically in 1915 - a claim strongly denied by Turkey.

CHIRAC CALLS FOR TURKEY TO RECOGNISE
WW1 ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
President Jacques Chirac has begun a two day visit to Armenia. The
French leader paid his respects at a monument to thousands of people
who were killed in the area during the World War One. Chirac used the
occasion to urge Turkey to recognise the 1915 to 1919 massacres at
the hands of the former Ottoman Turk regime. He said "All countries
grow up acknowledging their dramas and their errors."
According to Armenian sources, more than 1.5 million people died
in mass killings and deportations. They claim the deaths amounted
to genocide. But Turkey, which wants to be a member of the EU,
continues to reject this and says the total number of deaths were
nearer a quarter- of- million and sparked by an internal conflict.

TURKEY OBJECTS PUBLISHING LAND RECORD
DOCUMENTS OF OTTOMAN EMPIRE
The Internet version of "Huriet" touched upon the limitations
for the publications of the land record documents of the Ottoman
Empire. In particular, Turkey's National Security council objects the
translation of the abovementioned documents from the Ottoman Turkish
into the modern Turkish language. They condition their position by
the concern that the documents may be used for political or ethnic
goals, including the claims concerning the Armenian genocide.
Turkey's National Security Council sent a special letter to the
relevant land administration bodies of the country urging them to
keep them the documents in secret without letting anyone publish them.

TURKEY SHOULD RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE,
GERMAN PARLIAMENTARIAN CONSIDERS
"Turkey should recognize the crime committed against the Armenian
nation during Ottoman rule," said members of the Social Democratic
Party of Germany, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary German-Caucasian
Friendship Group Yorg Taus.
The politician noted that Germany is interested in the stable
development of the South Caucasus, ArmInfo reports. "Germany is
interested in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan primarily from economic
and political perspectives. By the way, the interest is not restricted
to the existence of oil in Azerbaijan.
The region is attractive from perspective of strategic importance
and closeness to Iran," he noted.

KALONSKA: GERMANY SHOULD RECOGNIZE
ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
Germany should recognize the Armenian
Genocide unreservedly, Hans Kalonska, the director of Germany's
Marborg-Bidenkopf Red Cross said when speaking to
reporters in Yerevan. The German Red Cross delegation visited
Sunday the Armenian Genocide Memorial to pay homage to the
1915 Genocide victims.
Kalonska said the Armenian Genocide resolution passed by the German
Bundestag should have had described the events of the past century
in more precise legal terms.
"The resolution has not found adequate resonance in the German society
though Germany shares a responsibility for the crime," Kalonska
said. He also said that Turkey cannot join the European Union until
it has recognized the Armenian Genocide.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER AN OLD TOWN IN KARABAKH
Artsakh's town of Tigranakert, built in the 1st century BC by
Tigran II The Great, has been discovered in the Eastern border of
Nagorno Karabakh. Yerkir non-profit organization reports that the
archaeological team of the National Academy of Sciences conducted the
archaeological dig, headed by Hamlet Petrosyan, PHD in History. Yerkir
is the initiator and sponsor of the excavations. The findings of the
scientists need to be further elaborated. However, the available
data are enough to prove once again that Artsakh has historically
been part of Armenia as an important province in the eastern part of
the country.
